Prize Details:

 Tutka Bay Lodge Cookbook

The Tutka Bay Lodge Cookbook:

Through personal stories, evocative photographs, and recipes that are purposefully designed for the home cook, mother and daughter chefs Kirsten Dixon and Mandy Dixon share fresh, rustic, delectable cuisine. This recipe collection represents the cuisine at Tutka Bay Lodge, the Dixons’ seaside lodge nestled within the curve of a quiet cove at the entrance to Tutka Bay, a deep seven-mile fjord in Kachemak Bay, Alaska. On every page, Kirsten and Mandy showcase old-world tradition of family working together to create a lifestyle that celebrates the bounty of the natural world, their culinary explorations, and living a life of adventure.

North Nordic Cuisine Cover

North: The New Nordic Cuisine of Iceland:

Iceland is known for being one of the most beautiful and untouched places on earth, and a burgeoning destination for travelers lured by its striking landscapes and vibrant culture. Iceland is also home to an utterly unique and captivating food scene, characterized by its distinctive indigenous ingredients, traditional farmers and artisanal producers, and wildly creative chefs and restaurants. Perhaps no Icelandic restaurant is as well-loved and critically lauded as chef Gunnar Gíslason’s Restaurant Dill, which opened in Reykjavík’s historic Nordic House in 2009. North is Gíslason’s wonderfully personal debut: equal parts recipe book and culinary odyssey, it offers an unparalleled look into a star chef’s creative process. But more than just a collection of recipes, North is also a celebration of Iceland itself—the inspiring traditions, stories, and people who make the island nation unlike any other place in the world.

Visionary-Kitchen-CoverVisionary Kitchen: A Cookbook for Eye Health:

Sandra A. Young, OD is an optometrist with a special interest in nutrition and vision. She earned her Doctor of Optometry from Pacific University, College of Optometry, Forest Grove, Oregon, 1984. Dr. Young comes from a long line of chefs and waiters from New Orleans, both French and Italian. She has been cooking in the Mediterranean tradition since childhood, both in her family s kitchen and catering for large events. Visionary Kitchen is filled with gourmet, nutrient dense recipes and has eye nutrient food charts. The low glycemic impact recipes found in Visionary Kitchen meet a wide variety of dietary needs ranging from traditional-fare to vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free. The recipes are packed with nutrients for eye health. Instead of telling the reader to take supplements containing these micronutrients, Dr. Young attempts to educate the reader/cook about how to get these nutrients naturally.

When I was young, my Grandmother always cooked a huge pot of Beef Vegetable Soup with Barley in her huge pressure cooker, when we had our first big cold front of the seasoning. She would warm the saltine crackers in oven to go with it. So, a great Beef Vegetable Soup is always on the menu in my household when it starts to get cold.
